Clark McDowell Wood, Jr. 85, of Dinwiddie County, died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at home. He was born May 30, 1921 in Chesterfield County the son of the late Clark McDowell Wood, Sr. and Lois Jenkins Wood. He was preceded in death by his sisters Edith Wood Gay and Jeannette Wood Southall. Mr. Wood was a retired accountant. He was a former Commissioner of Accounts for Dinwiddie County and also served ten years as a Deputy in the Sheriffâ??s Department. Mr. Wood was an active member and former President of the Gerow Ruritan Club and a member of the Colonial Heights Senior Golf Association. A lifelong member of First Baptist, Petersburg, he was devoted to the work of the church, serving as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a World War II veteran who served in the European theater. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Margaret Diehl Wood; daughter, Lilla Diehl Wood Costello and husband, Joseph P. of Hingham, MA; daughter, Lois Wood Schmidt and husband, COL Rodney H.C. of Alexandria, VA; two grandsons, Michael J. Costello and Patrick C. Costello of New York, NY and a granddaughter; Mary Elisabeth Schmidt of Alexandria, VA; a brother-in-law, Edward T. Diehl of Richmond; sister-in-law, Charlotte S. Diehl of Colonial Heights; two nieces, Joan S. Mills (Dan) and Sarah T. Diehl; four nephews, William W. Southall, Stephen C. Diehl, Thomas A. Diehl, II (JJ) and R. Timothy Diehl. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday August 30, in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery.
