Jr. P. Mcgill

Henry Peabody McGill, Jr., 70, of Richmond died Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Born and raised in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Henry P. and Elizabeth Lester McGill; grandson of William L. and Otelia Mahone McGill. He was a graduate of Petersburg High School and the University of Virginia where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall. Mr. McGill worked several years for Universal Leaf Tobacco Co. In 1963 he moved to Richmond and began a career in commercial banking with First & Merchants National Bank. He worked 36 years for F&M and its successors, Sovran, Nations and Bank of America, retiring as a vice-president in June 1999. Mr. McGill was a member of the Commonwealth Club, Sons of the Revolution and the Jamestowne Society. Survivors include his wife of 39 years Sarah (Sally) Roper McGill; two sons, Henry P. McGill III and wife Elizabeth of Richmond, and Charles Mahone McGill and wife Marjorie of London, England; a grandson John Spotswood McGill and two step-grandchildren Elizabeth Wren Norman and William Kemp Norman of Richmond; a sister Elizabeth McGill Davis of Lecanto, Florida. The family will receive friends at 10am Saturday, September 1st at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with a graveside service immediately following at 11am in Blandford Cemetery.
