Jr., Talmage Joyner

Floyd T. Joyner, Jr., 81, died on Thursday, May 14, 2009. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gene Hart Joyner; two daughters, Debbie Geisel and husband Joe, Celeste Hall and husband, Ron; four grandchildren, Chris Geisel and wife, Laura, Drew Geisel, Sarah Hall and Caroline Hall; one great grandchild, Stephanie Geisel; three nieces and one nephew.
Mr. Joyner grew up in Ivor, served in the US NAVY in World War II and graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1949. He was employed by the State Corporation Commission as an examiner of insurance companies until 1960 when he joined Fidelity Bankers Life Insurance Company as an assistant controller. He remained there until his retirement in 1991 as Senior Vice President, Secretary and Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. Joyner was a charter and active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church. At one time or another, he served as Trustee, Moderator, Deacon, Treasurer and Clerk. He frequently chaired the Churchâ??s finance committee and sang in the Chancel Choir for more than forty-five years.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Derbyshire Baptist Church at 3:00 PM in Richmond. A graveside service will be on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Waverly Cemetery in Waverly. Memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, 3400 Brook Rd., Richmond, VA 23227-4536. The family is being served by the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wakefield.
