Virley Willie Chandler, Jr., 85, of Hopewell, died Monday, January 12, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center. He was born in Bristol, VA and had made his home in Hopewell for over 40 years. Mr. Chandler was retired from the U.S. Army, having served during WW II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the First Assembly of God and was a retired operator for Honeywell, Chesterfield Plant. Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Cora Ann Fields Chandler, his wife, Georgia Marie Chandler, a son, Virley W. Chandler, Jr., and a brother Paul Chandler. He is survived by two daughters, Virginia S. Yarbrough and her husband Robert, Jr., Hildaguard C. Goodman, one son, Delmer G. Chandler, Sr., and his wife Rose, all of Hopewell, 4 grandchildren, Melissa J. Goodman, Jessica M. Goodman, both of Hopewell, Delmer Chandler, Jr. of King William County, Eric L. Chandler of Quinton, 1 great granddaughter, Rana Chandler of Quinton, one son-in-law, Jerry A. Crowder of Ashland, VA, and one sister, June C. Herron of Columbus, Ohio. The family will receive friends Wednesday January 14, 2004 from 7:00 to 08:30PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rodney Mason, pastor of Hopewell Assembly of God officiating. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery.
