Jr., William P. Jordan

William Pritchard Jordan, Jr. M.D., 73, of Chesterfield died at his home on January 5, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. The cause was congestive heart failure. He was the son of the late Dr. William Pritchard Sr., and Mary Margaret Schlanser Jordan of Windsor, North Carolina. Dr. Jordan had a distinguished career in dermatology having been a Clinical Professor at the Medical College of Virginia since 1981. He trained a generation of dermatologists and was the referral of last resort for the most difficult to treat skin conditions. He was a national leader in the area of contact dermatitis and pioneered the use of immunosuppressive medications to treat skin diseases. He lectured around the world and authored numerous publications on these subjects. Dr. Jordan attended college at Belmont Abby in Belmont, NC and medical school at Bowman Gray in Winston-Salem, NC. He did his residency at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC and was active duty in the army from 1964-1971, rising to the rank of major. He remained clinically active and taught until this year. Later in life he developed a passion for photography focusing on his beloved Chesapeake Bay and homestead farm. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn F. Pell; son, Dr. Joseph G. Jordan and wife, Jennifer Andrews Jordan of New York City; two grandchildren, William Patrick and Anna Hyde Jordan both of New York City; a sister, Dorothy Jordan of Windsor, N.C.; three brothers, Dr. Joseph C. Jordan and wife, Kim of Greenville, N.C., Carl Jordan of Manteo, N.C., and Paul Jordan of Windsor, N.C.; eight nephews, Paul Jordan Jr., Louis Jordan, Robert and Boyd Sechrist, Jeffrey N. Pell, Matthew Pell Stinson, Richard Pell Jordan, and Daniel Pell Jordan; four nieces, Mary Margaret Jordan, Ella Jordan, Anna Marie Jordan, and Evelyn e. Butler; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray W. Sechrist, Newell and Sue Pell, Ann-ella and Richard L. Jordan, and Ruth and Lester Stinson, Jr. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday January 8, 2012 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service with the Reverend Dr. Ivan Perkinson, officiating.
