Judith "Judy" Gates Scrivener passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 83. She was a longtime chemistry professor at Brightpoint (previously called John Tyler) Community College. Born in Seattle, Washington, she earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Brigham Young University, in 1963, and then attended Florida State University, where she met her husband of nearly 60 years, Ed Scrivener. She earned a master's degree in chemistry from VCU, and pursued a PhD in chemistry there as well. Judy and Ed had three daughters and lived in Chester, Virginia, for over 50 years. In addition to her professional life, Judy was an avid horseback enthusiast, continuing to travel and ride with her friends through her 81st birthday. She also loved sewing and making embroidered gifts for friends and family. Judy was preceded in death by both parents; all eight of her siblings; and her youngest daughter, Christina Stevens, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by her husband; two older daughters, Sandra Beaulieu, of Callaway, Maryland, and Sheryl Richardson, of Arlington, Tennessee; and seven grandchildren, Madeleine, Michelle, Marianne, Mark, Gabrielle, Mathew, and Elizabeth.
The service is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with a visitation starting at noon, and interment at Sunset Memorial Park, immediately following the service. If desired, the family requests that donations in her memory be sent to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.
