Julian A. Felts, 90, a lifelong resident of Southampton County died on Tuesday, January, 26, 2010. Born on November 29, 1919, near Ivor, he was the son of the late William Thomas Felts and Lillie Joyner Felts.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Tomlin Felts; a daughter, Janette F. Lowe and her husband, Jack of Ivor; two sons, Julian A. (Jay) Felts, Jr. and wife, Anita, and David Russell Felts and his wife Cathy, both of Sedley; seven grandchildren, Robyn Hall, John Lowe, Bryan Lowe, Chris Felts, Travis Felts, Patrick Felts and Aaron Felts; thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; five sisters, Nannie Felts Council, Dorothy Felts Wade, Louise Felts Pittman, Frances Felts Lassiter and Betty Jo Felts Abernathy; and a brother, Bobby A. Felts. He was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Felts White; two brothers, James Martin Felts and Clifton Joyner Felts.
Julian was a well known and active member of the Ivor community all his life. He was an avid golfer and had a life-long interest in geneaology. He served in many capacities as a member of Ivor United Methodist Church including Trustee, Chairman of the Stewardship Committee and a teacher of the Menâ??s Bible Class for many years. He was charter member of the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the B&B and Community Hunt Clubs and the Urquhart Gillette Camp # 1471 Sons of Confederate Veterans, Southampton County Electoral Board from 1992 â?? 2008 and was proud to have been on the road naming committee for the county. He was also a member of the Ivor Ruritan Club.
Julian was a member and Past Master of the Ivor Masonic Lodge # 291, A.F.&A.M. He had served as District Deputy Grand Master and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
A funeral service with Mason rites will be held at Antioch Church Cemetery near Windsor on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 2:00PM by the Rev.Edward Owen and Rev.Cliff Fritzinger. The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield on Wednesday evening from 7-8PM.
