Julian Douglas Lewis, 68, of Surry, died peacefully on Sunday, December 13, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Julian was predeceased by his father, Jules D. Lewis, his mother and stepfather, William Turner Judkins and Ruby Atkinson Judkins of Surry.
He is survived by his cousins, Elizabeth (Larry) O'Connell and Dick Lewis of North
Carolina, as well as many close and dear friends and caregivers.
Julian was involved in many organizations. Among them were the Surry Jaycees, the Surry County Electoral Board, and the Surry Athletic Association Board. He was also an honorary member of the Beechland Hunt Club and a past member of the Surry Volunteer Fire Department. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the VA USSSA and was inducted into the VA USSSA Hall of Fame in 1998.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Purviance Chapel of
J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Wakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Surry Volunteer Fire Department or the Surry County Historical Society. Condolences may be posted at www.jtmorriss.com .
