Karen Sue Baker Crosby, 67, of Chester, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 1, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father, Norris Baker. Karen is survived by her husband, George “Mike” Crosby; mother, Claire Meares Baker; brother, Norris Michael Baker (Joan); sister, Jennifer Baker DeLony (James); brother, George Emerson Baker (Sheri); 4 nephews and 3 nieces. Karen was a native of Dillon County, South Carolina. She graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina. She attended George Washington University in Washington D.C., and received a master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from State University of New York. Karen was employed at Allied Chemical Corp., currently known as Honeywell. She was the first woman appointed superintendent of analytical services in the U.S. retiring after 30 years of service. She later went on to open a consulting firm with friend and business partner, Ken Nowell, called Balanced Solutions. Karen was member of Enon Baptist Church and a member of the American Chemical Society. She enjoyed reading and was an advocate for animals. She had a passion for nature and loved to spend time in her garden. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Enon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Fork, South Carolina.
