Katherine Joy Thornton

Katherine Joy Thornton, 36, of Hopewell passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013. She was the daughter of the late W. Samuel Harvey. She was also preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Francis Harvey. Kathy was an animal lover who took in stray animals to give them a loving home. Kathy loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Mark Wayne Thornton; son, LCP Cody B. Harvey, currently serving in Afghanistan; daughters, Kiersten Harvey-Gardner ( Thomas), Deven Thornton; grandchild, Justin Gardner; mother, Linda Hurt; sister, Crystal D. Harvey; brothers, Matthew Harvey, Lyle Hurt and his fiancé, Ligia Rebola; maternal grandparents, Retta and Otmer Huffman; paternal grandfather, Ward T. Harvey; special friend, Robert Lee Phillips; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Humane Society, P.O. Box 562, 3412 Oaklawn Boulevard, Hopewell, Virginia 23860.
