Kathleen Barnes

Kathleen Mâ??Ledge Harris â??Peteâ? Barnes, 87, formerly of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away in Nags Head, North Carolina, on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia on March 16, 1924. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Womenâ??s Club of Hopewell and a communicant at St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church. She was a retired Civil Service employee at Fort Lee. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Barnes Jr.; her parents, Joel Walker and Mabel Motley Harris; and brothers, Jack Harris and Billy Harris. Mrs. Barnes is survived by her daughter, Patricia Carole Barnes, of Cheraw, South Carolina; a son, William Richard Barnes III, of Manteo, North Carolina; grandchildren, Julia Kathleen Barnes Matzgannis and husband, Kristian, of Newport News, Virginia; Ashley Elizabeth Barnes of Nags Head, North Carolina; and Will Harlan McGuire and wife, Sarah, of Greenville, South Carolina; great grandchildren, Stella Jamelle Matzgannis and Peter Michael Matzgannis; two sisters, Frances Harris Stanley of Destin, Florida, and Joann Harris Carelock of Petersburg, Virginia; a brother, Donald Harris, of Petersburg, Virginia; and other loving family members. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, with Father Bill Taylor officiating.
