Kathryn "Kay" Brooks Grimmer

March 10, 1949 — January 28, 2017

Kathryn Brooks “Kay” Grimmer, 67, lifelong resident of Matoaca, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Sterling Grimmer and Dale Davis Grimmer. Kay graduated from Matoaca High School Class of 1967 and James Madison University Class of 1971. She taught special education for 34 years retiring from Colonial Heights High School after many years. Kay loved her church family dearly and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Katie Garrison (Danny); son, Matt Roddenberry (Erin); grandchildren, Ryan, Emma and Abby Garrison; siblings, Peggy Hayes, Anne Temple (Don), and Bill Grimmer (Loretta); and niece, Lauren Grimmer (Ken). The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to your local animal shelter. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
