Katie Gardner Crawford

Katie Gardner Crawford, 78, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. She was born in Bethune, SC to the late Russell Ray and Kate Mosely Gardner. The family moved to Hamlet, NC in 1942 where Katie grew up and attended school. She was an avid reader even at a young age spending much of her time in the library. After graduation, Katie attended Western Carolina University where she earned her degree in education. She taught biology at Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville, NC where she met the late William Roosevelt Crawford. They married in 1964 and travelled to many of the places she had read and dreamed about. In addition to her parents and husband, Katie was preceded in death by her sister, Jewell Gardner Stallings. Katie is survived by her daughter, Mary Katherine Blencowe and her husband, John; brother, William Russell Gardner; brother in-law, Stephen A. Stallings; and nieces, nephews and their families. A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park.
