Katy Clayton

d. May 1, 2005

Katy Mae Clayton passed away at her home in Enon on May 1, 2005. She was diagnosed in November, 2004 with pancreatic cancer. She was 71 years old.
She was born and raised in Hopewell and attended Hopewell Public Schools. She married Daniel G. Clayton, Jr. in December 1950. They were married for 49 years until his death in 2000. She moved to Enon in 1959 where she spent the rest of her life. She was active in the Opti-Mrs. Club volunteering and watching her three sons play baseball, football and basketball.
Katy worked for the Ford Agency, Inc, in Hopewell for 42 years and was still employed at the time of her death. She loved her work and developed special relationships with fellow employees and business clients that are rare by today?s standards. George Mahaney at Ford Agency said ?I worked closely with Katy for 40 years ? she was very professional with her clients and the many insurance companies we represent. She had an excellent rapport with all types of people and treated them as her family. We miss Katy.? In Katy?s honor, Ford Agency will be closed on Thursday until after her funeral.
Katy had a strong faith which was evident from the onset of her cancer until her death. She was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in Hopewell. During the short five months she lived after the cancer diagnosis, she remained strong and was forever consoling everyone who was grieving for her. ?Your mother is a brave person ? she was someone I trusted? said Dr. Sidhu to her sons. Katy?s purpose in life was simply to help others.

She is survived by her three sons: Dan Clayton and Julie Phares of Williamsburg, Mike Clayton and wife, Liz, of Midlothian, and Daryl Clayton and wife, Teresa, of Enon; two sisters, Betty Woodard of Hopewell and Helen Maitland of Prince George County; one brother Harvey Grammer and wife, Adelia, of Hopewell; 6 grandchildren - Blake Clayton and wife, Stacy,
