Katy Berryman Huber of Surry County and of Wakefield died on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Waverly Healthcare Center after a period of declining health. Born on February 19, 1919 in Surry County to Charles Cecil and Myrtle Seward Berryman, she was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Cecil H. Berryman; and her sister, Rebecca Frances Gwaltney. She and her husband Gregor O. Huber, who died in September 2010, moved to Wakefield in 1938, where they lived until 1985 when they moved back to Surry County.
Mrs. Huber was a popular hair dresser in the area, for a short time in Surry, then for many years in Wakefield. She also was a case worker for the Social Services Department in Sussex County, and for a time worked in the Wakefield Town Office..
Mrs. Huber is survived by her sons, Thomas O. Huber of Surry County, John R. Huber of Richmond, and William G. Huber. She is also survived by a niece, Martha G. Coward and her husband, David of Varina; and a nephew, R. Charles Gwaltney and his wife, Jennifer of Surry County.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Union Christian Church Cemetery, 2654 New Design Rd., Dendron, VA 23839 with Pastor Charles Willman II officiating. The family wishes to thank the caring souls at Waverly Health Care Center who tended her the last 18 months and eased her transition to her new life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the church she was most recently a member, Waverly Congregational Christian Church, P.O.
