Kelsey Bayliss

d. February 19, 2011

Kelsey Nicole Bayliss passed away Feb. 19, 2011 at the age of 15.
She was born on December 12, 1995 in Chesterfield County to parents Shelbie and Steven Bayliss.
Though her life may have been short, too short, Kelsey touched the lives of all of those she loved and even those she knew only as acquaintances.
Kelsey was known for her vibrant personality. Though sassy, the Dinwiddie teenager had a sensitive side making sure those in her presence not only felt comfortable, but special.
Even in her final weeks of life, Kelsey showed her caring and determined side. She was not afraid to tell doctors and nurses when she was dissatisfied with their approach or when she needed privacy.
Though the honor student suffered from a serious case of mono and lymphoma, Kelsey showed her concern for her family and friends who visited her at MCV Medical Center.
Kelsey knew it was her time and asked her family to be happy because she enjoyed her life and with her Christian faith would be in a better place.
Even at a young age, Kelsey had a gift for making others feel important. She gave the greatest hugs and said the most reassuring words. Her bright wide smile had an impact on the hearts of many, her family, classmates and even strangers.
Kelsey did well in school and had aspirations of being a pediatrician. The freshman even admitted that she missed going to classes while at the hospital battling cancer.
Kelsey was determined and it was important for her to succeed in all she attempted whether it was a school project or a theater production. She was involved in theatre and played several roles at her school. She also was a cheerleader and enjoyed all athletics never afraid to try something new and different.
Kelsey did not pretend to be someone she wasnt. She had self-confidence and in her unique humorous way Kelsey would say she was amazing.
Kelsey loved to make people laugh and was able to make a joke out of almost any every day situation.
Kelseys personality and quirky sense of humor were as bright as her brilliant red hair.
Her favorite quote was, When you're in love, you can't fall asleep, because reality is so much better than your dreams." - Dr. Suess.
Kelsey loved music and was inspired by Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne and Victoria Justice.
She also was an inspiration herself protecting fellow students against bullying and standing up for the less fortunate.
Kelsey is survived by her mother Shelbie Bayliss, brother Matthew Bayliss, maternal grandparents Tom and Jeanneice Sims, paternal grandmother Shirley Bayliss, Uncle Terry Phipps, uncles and aunts John and Chris Bayliss and David and Brenda Bayliss, half brothers and sisters Andrew and Michelle Bayliss and many other family members and friends she held dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father Steven Bayliss.
A service to celebrate Kelseys precious life will be held at the Eastside Community Enhancement Center ( on Rt. 1 in Dinwiddie) on Saturday Feb. 26 beginning at 11 a.m.
Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com . In lieu of flowers, Kelsey would want donations to be made to the Dinwiddie Animal shelter at 10903 Wheelers Pond Road Dinwiddie, VA 23841.
