Kenneth Bertram Keener, Sr.

Kenneth Bertram Keener Sr., 95, of Hopewell, passed away on Friday July 14, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, William T. Keener Sr. and Frances Robinson Keener; his wife, Leona Coleman Keener; sister, Beverly Doeg; and brother, Wallace Keener. Kenneth was a strong Christian man and a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Hopewell. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps in World War II. Kenneth was an avid golfer and also loved playing cards and games. He is survived by his children, Linda D. Keener; Kenneth B. Keener, Jr. and his wife, Janice; Donna K. Stewart and her husband, Jay; and Larry D. Keener and his wife, Robbin; grandchildren, Mark A. Callas, Lisa J. Keener, Lanaya K. Botbyl, Scott C. Keener, Kristy K. O’Connell, Richard T. Chavis, Rebecca I. Patterson, Andrew T. Chavis, N. Shay Stewart (who was also his primary caregiver for the last five years), Gina R. Stewart, Lauren D. Woodward and Caroline A. Keener; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William T. Keener, Jr. and Johnny Keener; and two sisters, Elsie Kanak and Carol Birkett. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 21st at First Christian Church, 203 North 11th Ave, Hopewell, 23860 with a reception to follow at the Church. Inurnment will take place in Appomattox Cemetery at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund at First Christian Church.
