Kevin Michael Mertins, 58, of Prince George, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Christopher and Ruth Ann Mertins; brother, Brian Mertins. Kevin was a veteran of the United States Army as well as a Christian follower of the LORD Jesus Christ and a member of Unity Baptist Church. Kevin will be remembered for his desire to live a simple and unencumbered life along with his moral courage to always strive to do right by others as well as before his God. He was a sensitive and spiritual man, loving all things beautiful. He was always kind and tender hearted, and he looked out for those who were less fortunate. He believed in caring deeply, speaking kindly, loving greatly, laughing frequently, and giving of himself unconditionally. His greatest joys in life were his children and
grandchildren. He was and is still loved even in passing. His final wish was for all people to purposefully and intentionally show love and kindness toward one another. He is survived by his children Robert James Mertins, Christopher William Mertins, Sara Beth Henshaw, Carly Renee Phelps, and Alyssa Kaye Mertins; his grandchildren Ayden Mertins, Hailey Mertins, Kailynn Mertins, Brynnlee Mertins, and Leonardo Mertins; siblings Timothy Mertins, Patrick Mertins, Christopher Mertins, and Karen Mertins; and best friend, Mike Rempala. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home Hopewell. A funeral service will also be held on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church in Prince George, VA.
