Kevin Stuart Posey

Kevin Stuart Posey, 66, of Midlothian, Virginia, died December 12, 2023, two days after a tragic accident that caused a traumatic brain injury. He was born May 20, 1957, in Hopewell, Virginia, to Francis and Jeri Posey, who still live in Hopewell. He was widowed when his wife of 32 years, Judy, died in 2021.

Kevin is survived by his children and their families: Stuart and Amber Posey, and their children, Christian Blankenship, Aubrey and Reid Posey; Lauren Posey, and her children, Billy and Danny Posey; Jesie and Jimmy Yandle, and their daughter, Cheyanne Yandle. He is also survived by his siblings and their families: Pam Parsons, Joye and Joseph Slife, and their sons, Gideon, Reuben and Jared Slife; Todd and Kathy Posey, and their daughter, Karla Posey; as well as his former wife and Stuart's mother, Nancy Karabaich.

Kevin graduated from Hopewell High School in 1975, having already begun his career as a general contractor. He learned his trade in a vocational program that allowed him work in an apprenticeship while completing his academic requirements. Kevin's goal was to be his own boss, which he achieved in the 1980's, when he established his general contracting firm SJL Construction. He was proud to honor his children by using their initials for the company name.

Kevin could fix anything. He had a talent for figuring out practical solutions to any home maintenance problem. He tackled building and renovation projects, big and small, with meticulous precision. While he hated math, he could calculate materials and estimate jobs with uncanny accuracy. His parents, siblings, in-laws and extended family shamelessly imposed upon his time and good humor to rescue them repeatedly from all manner of home maintenance emergencies. Some of his clients relied on him for home and business repairs and renovations for 30-plus years. He worked hard his entire life, it will be difficult for his clients to replace his work ethic and reliability.

Kevin loved cooking for his family and fishing, but mostly his children and grandchildren. He never expected to have twin toddlers in his mid-60s, but he enjoyed constant distraction and entertainment from sharing his home for the last three years with Lauren and her sons.

Kevin attended Abundant Life Church in Prince George, Virginia with his parents, both in their 90s. He made a 60-mile round trip from his home in Midlothian each Sunday to drive them to church.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 3 p.m., at Bethlehem Congregational Church, 10501 Pole Run Rd, Disputanta, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 2 p.m. Interment in the church cemetery will follow the service.
