Kevin James Turner

Kevin James Turner, 60, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away surrounded by family on December 8, 2021. Born June 23, 1961, Kevin was the youngest son of the late Kenneth E. Turner and Barbara Hamn Turner. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Turner.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Millie D. Gryp-Turner; his children, Debra Settles, Natasha Gryp and Catherine Gryp (Nicholas Hanson); grandchildren, Tyrus Settles, Dallas Settles, Zachary Allen and Isabella Gryp-Hanson; brother, Ken Turner; sisters, Deborah Robins and Patty Coaker (Stan); numerous nieces and nephews; extended family, Dakari and Dawn Guy and Charlie and Teya Baldwin; faithful canine companion, JAKX; and countless friends at Outdoor World, Lake Gaston.

With a giving heart, Kevin spent his life taking care of others. He was a Specialist with the U.S. Army, and proudly served during Operation Desert Storm. In his civilian service with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), he supported our troops both at home and through multiple deployments during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kevin never met a stranger and his customers loved visiting with him when he worked at several retail and restaurant establishments, as well as the commissary at the Chesterfield County Jail.

Kevin always had a joke to tell or a prank to play, eliciting laughs from every person he met. He lived life to the fullest and found great joy in going on cruises, playing card games, shooting pool, bowling, watching wrestling, and above all, rooting for his cherished Redskins. For more than 20 years, he and his family have enjoyed summers together at Outdoor World, Lake Gaston, where Kevin would gladly teach you any line dance and often spent hours driving around the campsite visiting friends.

Kevin will be remembered as an amazing, loving man, and a blessing to everyone he met.

On Saturday, December 18, 2021, the family will offer a viewing between 10-11 a.m. and hold funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home (3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, VA). In honor of Kevin’s playful spirit and collection of Hawaiian shirts, the family welcomes guests to wear tropical/Hawaiian themed attire. Please also remember to wear a mask. The family will receive friends following the service in the J.T. Morriss & Son Reception Center (same location).
