Kimberly Avelsgard Kurtz, 45, of Chester, VA passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Born in Petersburg, VA she was the daughter of the late Linda Lois Avelsgard; and was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James and Rachel Davis; her paternal grandparents, Harold and Leona Avelsgard; her mother and father-in-law, Joan and Robert Kurtz; and her two loving yellow labs, Lindsey and Griffin. Kim was a 1990 graduate of Colonial Heights High School. She was a Vice President at SunTrust Bank for 25 years where she was a well-respected Leader and Teammate. Kim enjoyed spending time at the beach and lake, traveling and loving on her dogs, Stormy and Cookie. She will be remembered as having a heart of gold and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Kim is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Paul Kurtz; her father, Roger Avelsgard, Sr.; three siblings, Carlen McAlister, Linda Williams and husband, Joel and Roger Avelsgard, Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Mark Kurtz and wife, Andrea and Matthew Kurtz; her best friend, Marla Hodge; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson, officiating.
