King Baskerville Talley

May 24, 1929 — November 5, 2024

King Baskerville Talley, 95, died peacefully November 5, 2024, at her beloved home, Annsville, in McKenney, VA, surrounded by her three daughters. King was born on May 24, 1929, to the late Channing Feild Baskerville and Virginia John Terrell. She is also predeceased by her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Meade Armistead Talley, Jr.; and by her brothers, Channing Feild Baskerville, Jr., and Alexander Terrell Baskerville.

King was born and raised in McKenney, VA, never living more than 5 miles from her childhood home, Champ, and the homes, Montrose and Annsville, where she raised her family. She was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and faithfully served as organist for 50 years. King graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College in 1951, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. On June 30, 1951, she and Meade were married. In 1962, King went to work as a part time social worker for the Dinwiddie County Welfare Department. She retired in 1991 as the Director of the Department of Social Services for Dinwiddie County. During her tenure, she led the Department through the developing and expanding social programs of that time. For relaxation, King enjoyed playing Bridge, traveling, following her favorite sports teams, riding her Kawasaki mule, solving puzzles, taking long car rides that always involved checking out the Nottoway River, and making memories with her family and friends.

Surviving King are her daughters, Katherine T. McGowan (George), Eleanor T. Torre (Brian), and Elizabeth T. Midkiff; five grandchildren, Meade Spratley, Elizabeth S. Birocco, Christopher Torre, Matthew Torre, and Alyssa T. Scott; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Frances B. Tucker; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her "Village" was wide and deep.

The family would like to thank King's team of loving and devoted caregivers, Carolyn Mullins, Pam Finch, Ann Winn, Jane Byrd, and Ann House. Also thanks to the staff from Crater Community Hospice for their support and gentle assistance.
