Kinuko “Kim” Apodaca peacefully passed away at her home in Colonial Heights on December 9, 2016. She was the proprietor of the Oriental Food Store on Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond for 29 years and was affectionately called “Miss Chin” by her customers. Kim graduated from John Tyler Community College with an AS in Accounting. She was an avid reader, gardener and had a deep love for her pets. Kim was born Kinuko Fujise in Saga Ken, Japan on March 18, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lino Apodaca; daughter, Irene Doris; parents, Kyoji and Mitsu Fujise; brothers, Tatsuo and Seigo; and sister, Kimiyo of Japan. Kim is survived by her brother, Tsuyoshi; sisters, Kaoru of Japan and Fumiyo Barber of Texas; daughters, Dr. Eleanor Apodaca, Luci Apodaca and spouse, Enrique Hart, and Belle Ann Apodaca (Randi Hales); granddaughter, Sophia Hart and fiancé, Alexander Diaz; step-granddaughter, Lauren Hales; and her beloved Shitzu, Cossette. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dinwiddie, VA.
