L. Thurman Williams, 97, a lifelong resident of Dendron, VA, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006. Born on December 10, 1908 in Dendron, he was the only child of the late Luther Thomas Williams and Bertha Holdsworth Williams. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Audrey Bishop Williams, who died on July 16, 2006.
Mr. Williams worked as a mechanic for H. C. Motor Company of Surry for 40 years and also worked for Community Oil Company before retiring. He served as a Deacon and former treasurer of the Dendron Christian Church. He was a 1949 founding member of the Dendron Volunteer Fire Department and was the first Fire Chief, and a charter member of the Dendron Historical Society.
He is survived by two nieces, Marilyn Morey Eavey of Hagerstown, MD, and Sarah Morey of Charleston, SC.
Funeral services will be held at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Dendron Christian Church, P.O.
