Mrs. Lady Maude Montgomery, 91, a former resident of Hopewell, Virginia for many years, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at a Temple, Texas nursing home following many years of declining health. Lady was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Col (Ret) Waldo W. Montgomery, Sr. and her granddaughter, Lisa Lynn Montgomery. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Doris M. Seabrook of Boaz, Alabama and LTC (Ret) Waldo W. Montgomery, Jr. of Belton, Texas, four grandchildren, Scott Seabrook, Susy Minix, Lorie Boes and Beth Henderson; and seven great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late James Leonard and Maude Lee Gabel Cooper. Lady was born on August 16, 1916 in Waterloo, Alabama. She attended Martin College in Pulaski, Tennessee where she majored in piano and voice and became an accomplished pianist. As an Army officerâ??s wife, Lady accompanied her husband on his many post-World War II assignments. Her indomitable spirit overcame the challenges of being a homemaker whether it was in a converted World War II barracks or in the desolate wastes of the Canadian Arctic. A woman of extraordinary ability, Lady was a leader and organizer of Officer wivesâ?? club activities and an incomparable hostess. She received numerous letters of commendation from several commanding generals at Fort Lee, Virginia for her activities and friendship with the spouses of foreign officers attending courses at the post. To those that knew her best, Lady will always be remembered as an amazing chef and hostess, a lover of antiques, a world-traveler, a skilled writer, and an admirer of music and history. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas will host a visitation on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Family and friends will meet at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the J.T.
