Larry E. Hodson, 70, of Hopewell, VA, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Redfield, Iowa, and had been a long time resident of Hopewell. Larry served in the U.S. Army, taught school in both the Petersburg and Hopewell School systems for over 40 years, where he also was involved in coaching football. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member and past president of the Hopewell Optimist Club, and along with his wife Kathy, owned and operated the Hopewell/Prince George Driving School for over 18 years He was the son of the late Harold and Lena Bean Hodson. Larry is survived by his wife, Kathryn K. Hodson of Hopewell, two sons, Michael W. Hodson of Hopewell, Christian D. Hodson of Colonial Heights, three daughters, Regina H. Bokelaar of Prince George, Teresa H. Dail, Kelly H. Flournoy and husband Sean, all of Hopewell, grandchildren, Ian Bokelaar, Joshua Dail, Taylor Dail and Larissa Flournoy, two brothers, Donald Hodson and Robert Hodson and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 29, 2009, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held Monday, November 30, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Michael Browder, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, VA Chapter, Box 21, 2101 Executive Drive, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
