Larry West Lane, 76, of the Colonial Heights-Hopewell area, passed away unexpectedly Thursday February 11, 2010. He and his wife Lucille have been residents of Gloucester County, Va., since retirement in 1991 from Allied Signal; currently Honeywell in Hopewell, Va. Larry was born in Hopewell, Va., May 11, 1933 to the late Nettie Dudley and Ernest Winfrey Lane. He was preceded in death by his two sisters; Alice Louise Edison and Merle Adele Trueheart, and his four brothers; Winfrey A., Hiram W., Edward A., and Hugh D. Lane. He was a graduate of Hopewell High School. He was an inactive member of The First Christian Church of Hopewell where his parents were also members. Larry served his country in the United States Army and was a Korean War era veteran. He also served in the Army Reserves for 12 years with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was an employee of Allied-Signal (Honeywell) for 39 years retiring as Superintendant of Maintenance. He and Lucille enjoyed fishing and traveling in their retirement years. Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lucille Rudy Bowles Lane, known to most as â??Tootieâ?., his two sons; Larry Mark and wife Mary Jo, of Colonial Heights, Gregory West and wife Rebecca of Chesapeake; step daughter, Deborah Pond Smith and husband Mike of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina and step son, Richard Allan Bowles and wife Judy of Colonial Heights. He has eight grandchildren; Jarod and Halsey Lane, Hannah Lane Sebo of the United States Navy and husband Mitch, James and Channing Bowles, Bryan Pond, Wendy Pond Harrup and husband Jesse â??Chipâ? , and Hiedi Lane Sunico and husband Robb, five great-grandchildren; Bryce and Bradyn Harrup, Hailee and Aimee Carroll, and Adam West Sunico. The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home Tuesday February 16, from 5:30-7:30 PM; viewing may be done prior to visitation time. A funeral service will be performed by Larryâ??s nephew, Reverend â??Bobbyâ? Lane on Wednesday 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with interment in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County, Virginia.
