Laura Belle Miller Leatherwood, 93, lovingly referred to as Mama and Me Maw, passed away surrounded by family on April 11, 2024, in Claremont, VA. She was born on December 24, 1930, in Hopewell, VA.
She had a fulfilling career as LuLu the Bus Driver for several years, she was a teacher's assistant under Ms. Vanatta at Claremont Academy and she was a Librarian for the Claremont Book Mobile. She selflessly dedicated herself to serving her community, friends, and family. Her memorable and contagious laugh will be missed by so many.
When she wasn't running errands and doing for those around her, she enjoyed watching her hummingbirds, lunches with her school friends and her Curves ladies, flowers of all kinds, being a member of the Red Hat Society, her animals, and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory forever are her children, Janet Garrett (Evans), Neal Leatherwood, Lisa Michaelis (John), Todd Leatherwood (Kerry), and Cindy Scott (Chris); her grandchildren, Carrie Little (Joe), Amanda Leatherwood, Tabitha Sale (Adam), Ryan Scott (Kandice), Marti Naulty, Stephanie Reavis (Stephen), Brandon Leatherwood (Allison Monahan), Kelsey Starcher (Brett), Anne Iverson Scott (Joshua), and Justin Scott (Tina); her 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Laura also leaves behind her sweet black lab, Dixie, her crazy cat, Pole Cat, and many dear friends.
She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Robert H. Leatherwood; her oldest son, Mark A. Leatherwood; her grandson, Joshua J. Scott; and her great friend, Patsy Cooper.
