Laura Scott, 104, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023. She was born in Tallahassee, Florida, on June 21, 1918, to Wonderful Council Scott and Katrina Rice Scott. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and four sisters, Wonderful Council Scott, Katrina Scott, Willie Frank Scott, Roberts Scott, Roland Scott, Mary Moses, Carolyn Edwards, Ruby Findley, Dorothy Smith, and Clyde Hunter.
Laura was educated in Valdosta, GA. She later moved to Washington, D.C., in search of work and would eventually relocate to Philadelphia, PA, to reunite with her brothers and find employment at the Campbell Soup Co. She worked for Campbell for 20 years as a quality associate. After leaving Campbell, she was employed by Philadelphia IT Services, where she worked for 17 years, until she retired. After retirement, Laura moved to Opa Locka, Florida, where she provided care for her aging mother and two ill sisters.
After the death of her mother and sisters, Laura moved to Chester, VA, to live with a niece, Faye Delph. She spent her last years as a resident of Lucy Corr Health Center.
Laura was a member of Mt. Herman AME Church and served in the usher ministry. She loved the company of her many nieces and nephews. When asked what the secret of her long life was, she would respond that "she loved everybody."
Laura leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters, Kathlene McCray Addison (Atlanta, GA) and Katrina Fluelle (Warner Robins, GA); her niece, Faye Delph and partner, James who she called "her angels"; a great nephew, Tracy Delph; great-great niece, Leah Neveah Delph; and a host of nieces and nephews; and very close friends, Rev. Charles Sumpter, Betty Cory, and Barbara Hills, of Chesterfield County, VA, and Elaine Berrington, of Opa Locka, FL.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
