Lawrence Lee Coleman, Jr.

Lawrence "Lee" Coleman, Jr., of Sussex, VA, passed away June 29, 2024. He was born and raised in Carson, VA, and resided there until his marriage in 1996, when he and his wife, Rebecca, moved to Sussex to reside on a family farm. During those years to the present, he and his wife were blessed with three beautiful children, Ryleigh Coleman Saunders, Sydney Danielle Coleman, and Lawrence Lee Coleman III "Cole". This past November 24th, he became a proud Grandfather to his first grandchild, Elizabeth Jean Saunders. He was a loving, hardworking, devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to not only his family but many who he took under his wing through his years. He was very grateful to have been a part of all their lives.

He was a graduate of Prince George County, class of 1985, and from there continued his education in all the skills of life. He was fondly referred to as a "jack of all trades". He worked as an electrician in his younger years and went on to help his father, Lawrence Coleman Sr., with every facet of business and daily life with a service station, convenience store, and the family business, Colemans Peanut Company. He later went on to oversee and manage all the family businesses after his father's passing.

He was an avid outdoorsman, (fondly known as "Kool" by those who knew him best), and loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and raising his cattle. He found his greatest joy in hearing his hounds running with his kids and friends and going out to sea in search of a big fish. He found his greatest peace sitting in the middle of his pastures, surrounded by his cattle grazing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence L. Coleman, Sr. and Brenda Coleman. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Rebecca Coleman; his daughter, Ryleigh Coleman Saunders and son-in-law, Waverly Saunders; his daughter, Sydney Danielle Coleman; his son, Lawrence Lee Coleman III "Cole"; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Jean Saunders; his sisters, Rosemarie Bland (David), Angela Quinn (John); his father-in-law, Charles R. Thompson Jr.; his brother's-in-law, Joseph Thompson (Lydia), Matthew Thompson (Maddi); sister-in-law, Sarah Lassiter (Shane); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Waverly Saunders officiating. There will be a final service at The Coleman Family Farm at 2:00 p.m. that same day, when he will be brought home to his final resting place.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the funeral home.
