LAWRENCE GENE EMORY, age 67, of Alden road Disputanta, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009 in Southside regional Medical Center. Born July 15, 1942 in Dinwiddie County, he was the son of the late James Herbert Emory and Beulah Mae Denton Emory.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Martin Emory; two sisters, Shirley Willoughby of Dinwiddie and Elizabeth Martin of Petersburg; a brother Roy H. Emory of Skyline Drive and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, James Pete Emory, Clyde Hugh Emory SR, Floyd D. Emory and Connie S (Mike) Williams.
Lawrence was an active member of his community. At the time of his death he was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Disputanta, president of the Claremont Ruritan Club and was active with Boy Scout Troop #2 of Surry. He was a member of the Claremont Masonic Lodge # 177, AF&AM. He was employed for the past 19 years as a machinist with Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation, Richmond District. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.
A funeral service will be held on Wed. July 22, 2009 at 12:00 Noon at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son, Wakefield. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Petersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 â?? 8:00 PM. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross, Hopewell-Prince George Chapter, P. O. Box 1261, Hopewell VA 23860 or the Claremont Ruritan Club, P. O.
