Dr. Lee Weathington II, 72, of Hopewell, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Born in Alabama, he was the son of the late Warren Thomas Weathington and Sue Hagius Weathington. He is survived by his children, Bridget Blakemore, Mark Weathington (Mary) and David Weathington (Andrea); grandchildren, Adam Blakemore, Daniel Blakemore, Maggie Weathington, Jay Weathington, Sloane Weathington and Harper Weathington; brothers, John Weathington and Carl Weathington; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; and devoted companion, Lethia Vaden. Dr. Weathington was one of the original partners of Hopewell Medical Center. He dedicated 47 years practicing medicine and was passionate about his work, his patients and his co-workers. He served as a medical examiner in the tri-cities for many years. He was a former Chief of Staff at John Randolph Medical Center and for numerous years served as the Chairman of Pediatrics. Dr. Weathington was a proud mentor and role model to numerous medical students and nurse practitioners. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed being active with the Boy Scouts. He served many years as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was an avid boater and loved to be on the water. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Beacon Theatre, 401 N. Main St., Hopewell, VA 23860.
