Lendel "Doc" W. Dockery, Sr., 86, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Lendel was born in Cleaton, KY, and was the son of the late, Brack and Elsie Dockery. He was also preceded by his brothers, Lawrence, of Chicago, Leon, of D.C., and Bob Dockery, of Chester; sisters, Lola Newman, of Dinwiddie, and Jean and Lois, of KY; granddaughter, Rebecca McClain; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Dockery.
Doc was a Millwright and retired from Honeywell, in Hopewell, in 1996. He also worked out of the "Millwright" Union prior to joining Honeywell. He was a US Army Veteran and served proudly in Korea from 1958 to 1959. He was last attending Tabernacle Methodist Church in Carson, and had also been a member of Pine Grove Baptist in North Dinwiddie, Believer's Christian Church in Ford, and Ephesus Baptist Church in South Hill. He loved the Lord, and served as Deacon in each of these churches except Tabernacle. He loved visiting and helping people and working on projects along with his wife at church. He also served many years with the Dinwiddie County Fire Department and Dinwiddie County Rescue Squad.
Lendel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue Dockery; his children, L. Wayne Dockery, Jr., Laura Lynn Allen (Cleve), and Cheryl Ann Elder (James); eight grandchildren, Heather Oliver (Matt), Shannon Mueller, Jessica Mueller, Joshua Elder, Brandon Allen, Justin Allen, David Dufrene (Casey), and Jennifer Littlejohn; ten great-grandchildren, John Oliver, Madison Walls, Ella Bollinger, Faith Elder, Zach Elder, Annabette, Laila Mueller, Hunter Dufrene, Dixie Dufrene, Louis Dufrene, Taylor Ann, Christopher "PeeWee", and Briana; great-great-grandchildren, Temperance and Eli; sister-in-law, Mary Christian; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
