Lester Edward "Ed" Yancey, Jr., 77, of Matoaca, VA, passed away on January 3, 2024. Born in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Lester E. Yancey, Sr. and Emma "Peggy" Holloway Yancey. Ed graduated from Marshall University in 1970 where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and later retired from DuPont as a supervisor. He was an avid lover of UVA athletics, the Washington Commanders, and all things Christmas. In his spare time he enjoyed coaching his daughters, playing golf with friends, and spending time at the beach. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 882 in Petersburg, where you could find him enjoying himself with friends many afternoons. He was a big presence and truly never met a stranger. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kate Payne Yancey; two children, Heidi Yancey Hicks (Bryan) and Melissa Yancey MacMinn (Jeffrey); his brothers, David L. Yancey (Patricia) and the late, Carlton W. Yancey; grandchildren, Halee Katelynn Taylor (Dylan), the late, Thomas Griffin Taylor, Emma Kate MacMinn, Chloe Elizabeth MacMinn, and Evan Wade MacMinn; and great-grandson, Beckett Reese Taylor. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831. The family will receive friends after the service until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to New Life for Adults and Youth, helping addicted young people and their families.
