Lethia Nichols Quarles

June 22, 1927 — March 28, 2023

Quarles, Lethia Nichols, of Petersburg, VA, passed away on March 28, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Porter Quarles, Jr.; her brother, Thomas Joseph Nichols Jr; and her sister, Nancy Nichols Michaels. She is survived by her son, Robert Quarles III and his wife, Elizabeth of Roanoke, VA; and her daughter, Martha Quarles of Atlanta, GA and fiancée W. Mark Hall; her grandchildren, Arkell Mokler and her husband, Mat of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Marshall and Taylor Quarles of Marathon, FL, and Fielding Quarles of Richmond, VA. Lethia was born and raised on the southside of Richmond before graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. She attended Marjorie Webster College, St. Mary's College, and the University of Richmond. Before graduating from RPI in 1948. Prior to marriage Lethia was a schoolteacher in Richmond, she was active in playing bridge, riding horses, taking cruises, vacations on the water, and reading novels. She was active for many years with the neighborhood watch, crime solvers of Petersburg, and was an active supporter of the Petersburg police. She had a lifetime love for animals and had many pets throughout her life. She is a member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church and enjoyed making palm crosses each Easter. Lethia was a long time member of the Country Club of Petersburg. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date towards the end of April. In lieu of flowers she asked for donations to crime solvers of Petersburg or the Petersburg Police Department. Online condolences may be conveyed to www.jtmorriss.com .
