Lewis Everett Dean

September 5, 1931 — February 16, 2021

Lewis Everett Dean, 89 of Disputanta, VA and formally of Hopewell, VA, passed away at home in the early morning hours of February 16, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family and, as he passed, the heavens announced his arrival with a celebration of thunder and lightning.
Born September 5, 1931 in Hopewell, VA to Emily Irene Puryear Dean and John Edward Dean he joined the family as the youngest son of 5 children. Throughout his youth Lewis was a star athlete and helped lead the Hopewell Blue Devils to State Championship titles multiple times.
Lewis retired in1992 from Stone Container Cooperation (now Rock 10 and formally Continental Can). He was employed at their Hopewell facility for over 30 years and, while there, achieved the position of Mechanic First Class.
Pop, Louie, Dizzy, or Lou as he was known by his family and close friends enjoyed all sports, excelled at many, and had a passion for woodworking. He could take any piece of wood and turn it into a beautiful piece of furniture or a remarkable craft item. He was always willing to design and then create that unusual shelf, candlestick, or child’s toy to the delight of anyone who asked. Many a child went home with a personalized free toy if they were fortunate enough to visit his booth at one of his frequently attended craft shows. He also cherished his early morning “coffee visits” to McDonalds and/or Hardee’s where he spent countless hours with his buddies reminiscing about days of old or replaying previous sporting events.
Louie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Carol; his son Randy and daughter-in-law Dorothy; a special niece, Darlene ; a younger sister Barbara; and many other nieces and nephews as well as their families. He impacted them greatly and his memory will live on in all of them forever.
Due to COVID limitations all related funeral activities will be private. A Celebration of Life Service may be held at a future point in time if safety protocols will allow.
The Family is being assisted by J.T. Morriss & Sons – Hopewell Chapel and condolences may be added on their website. Should you desire, the Family encourages you to donate, in his loving memory, to the charity of your choice
