Lewis Edward Gibbs Sr.

Lewis Edward Gibbs, Sr., 84, of Dinwiddie, VA passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Mr. Gibbs was born in Petersburg and raised in Chesterfield County, VA. He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Gibbs and wife, Virgie; his mother, Gertrude D. Brooks and husband, Frank Brooks, Sr.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert McDaniel and Donnie Gibbs; and two sisters, Mary M. Gibbs and Sandra G. Green (Arthur). Mr. Gibbs was a graduate of Thomas Dale High School in Chester, VA and went on to retire from Brown and Williamson Tobacco after 31 ½ years of service. He also worked as a building contractor until 2005 when he became disabled. Lewis was a member of the Moose Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Gibbs liked music, especially playing the guitar. He loved tending to his cows, working in his yard and learning Spanish. Mr. Gibbs will be remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean Fick Gibbs; his children, Rita East, Wanda Fink (Fred), Deborah Carpenter (Jack), Crystal Christian, Mary Wray (Scott), Lewis “Bubba” Gibbs, Jr. (Carrie), R. “Darren” Gibbs; William “Billy” Gibbs (Wanda) and Jeana Brooks (Timmy); 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lois Gibbs, devoted friend, Mary A. Gibbs; special cousins, Henry and Carolyn Hogue; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Western Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan Dundalow and the Rev. Robert Rowland, officiating. Interment will be private at the Gibbs Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Western Heights Baptist Church. The family is being served by the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
