LABIN, Lewis Edward of Chester, VA, departed this life on Sunday, February 3, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 25, 1935 in Brownsville, PA. He was preceded in death by parents, James and Elizabeth Labin, sisters, Mary Carol Harden, Barbara Johnson, and brothers Alfred Labin and James Labin, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty Jean (nee Matty) Labin, and two children: daughter, Tracy Ann Labin, of Glen Allen, VA and son, Scot Edward Labin of Annapolis, MD, and numerous nieces. He received his B.S. in Education from California State University, California, PA. While in college he enrolled in the ROTC program, serving the U.S. Marine Corps (Active Duty and Reserve) for 23 years retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Upon graduation, he taught Physical Science and Social Studies for two years at Penn Hills High School, Penn Hills PA. His U.S. Government Civil Service career began in Pittsburgh, PA with the DOD Naval Investigative Service; continued in Washington, D.C. with the Defense Investigative Service; Special Agent in Charge of the General Services Administration, Office of Investigations located in Fort Worth, TX; and retiring with 29 years of service in Federal law enforcement as Special Agent in Charge, Richmond Field Office, Defense Criminal Investigative Service/DOD-IG. Ed was a long-time member of the Chester United Methodist Church, the Chester United Methodist Men, American Legion Post 284, and the Military Officers Association of America (Treasurer and Secretary). Ed was actively involved over the years with church and civic affairs. He had many interests in life including foreign travel, sports, being a handyman, and maintaining the perfect yard. A memorial service will be held at the Chester United Methodist Church 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019, with interment at Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, VA., at 11:00 am on Friday, March 8, 2019.
