Lidge O. Jenkins Johnson, 87, of Prince George, VA passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late Ollie Eugene and Grace Griggs Johnson; and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Carroll Johnson; and his sister, Genevieve J. Connor. Mr. Johnson is a 28-year veteran of the US Army, retiring from active duty in 1980 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His overseas deployments included service in Korea, two tours of duty in Vietnam and the Kingdom of Laos. In the years following his retirement from the military Mr. Johnson was a local entrepreneur developing subdivisions, building homes, owning car dealerships and other various enterprises. He was very involved in his local community serving over ten years on the Prince George Planning Commission, running for office for House of Delegates, the Board of Supervisors, and serving as the Boy Scouts of America District Chairman. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully as a Bishop, Stake President and most recently as a Stake Patriarch. His hobbies included spending time with his family and the many activities that they were involved in, as well as boating, classic cars, and vacationing at Nags Head. He enjoyed talking to people, sharing stories and imparting wisdom and guidance to his family and friends. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy Carroll Johnson; three children, Angela T. Mitchell (David), Derrick A. Johnson (Jacqueline) and Christopher A. Johnson (Elizabeth); ten grandchildren, Ashton E. Girolmo (Scott), Bryce A. Mitchell (Kieran), Evan R. Mitchell (Jessiny), Megan V. Johnson, Blair A. Johnson, Lidge A. Johnson (Ashley), Tyler Johnson (Kayla), Brittany E. Vimahi (Nafe), Caleb Johnson (Bridget) and William L. Johnson (Emily); and fourteen great-grandchildren, Reagan, William, Cooper, Talon, Nash, Charlotte, Knox, Lily, Isla, Zara, Remington, Annie, Wesley and Carter. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4181 Prince George Dr., Prince George, VA 23875 with Bishop Gerry Faries, officiating. Interment will be Monday, February 7, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831.
