Lillian Watkins Floyd

October 29, 1922 — June 24, 2016

Lillian Belle “Sweets” Watkins Floyd, 93, of N. Dinwiddie, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, June 24, 2016. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, William J. Floyd, who she deeply missed. She is survived by her son, Thomas W. Floyd and his wife, Martha; and beloved granddaughter, Shelby Floyd Holden and her husband, Bobby. Born on October 29, 1922, at the family farm in Church Road, Virginia, she was the eldest daughter of Oscar Lee Watkins and Lillian Gertrude Ford Watkins. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Eddie Lee Watkins and Oscar McIlwaine Watkins; one sister, Ella Watkins Dalton; and a dear nephew, David Smith. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Anna Watkins Hearn and Louise Watkins Smith and her husband, Ralph; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was known as “Sweets” not only for her love of sweets but for her disposition. Sweets was a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County and was raised to know the value of hard work. She was an immaculate housekeeper and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reminiscing old times, reading the bible and writing in journals about the happenings in daily living. Her love and devotion to her church and family were unwavering. Many thanks to Sonta Birckett and Vanessa Randolph and their families for their gentle and loving care of Sweets as her health declined. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4814 Courthouse Rd., Church Road, VA 23833.
