Linda Miller Harper, 87, of Chester, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Born in Honaker, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Laura Louise McGraw Miller; and was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Emmett Leslie Harper, Sr.; and seven siblings, Marguerite, Nora Jane, Betty, Jimmie Gay, Louise, Ralph, and Jack. She was a graduate of Longwood University and had worked as a Business Teacher at Thomas Dale High School. She was a member of Chester United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Womens Club and was affectionately known as the "Pecan Lady". Mrs. Harper was also a member of the Chester Village Women's Club and enjoyed playing solitaire, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and was a lover of ice cream. Linda will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted wife, mother and "Mimmie". She is survived by her three children, Jeff Gordon Stovall (Lorine), Stephanie Anne Phillips (Marshall), and Emmett "Les" Harper (Heather); six grandchildren, Marie Grace Stovall, John Christian Thomas Stovall, Marshall "Loudon" Phillips, Kathryn McGraw Turner (Lennie), Eden Elizabeth Harper, and Emma Leslie Harper; two great-grandsons, Emmett and Bodhi; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education or a charity of your choice in memory of Linda M. Harper.
