Lionel Montgomery Woodfin, Jr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. He was the son of the late Lionel Montgomery Woodfin, Sr. and Rebecca Verlander Woodfin of Chester, Virginia. Mr. Woodfin was predeceased in death by his wife, Martha Pullen Woodfin. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Woodfin Lee and husband, Jimmy; a son, Christopher Montgomery Woodfin and wife, Gina; four grandchildren, Brooke and Jordan Lee, and Adam and Hunter Woodfin; one sister, Sandra Woodfin Dunnavant; as well as a host of relatives and friends, especially a very dear friend, Greta Getch, who he has known for years, but recently shared companionship, joy and fun.
He started his work career as a Chesterfield County police officer, then took part ownership of Woodfin Brothers Wrecker Service, and finished his career working in the trucking industry as the Safety Maintenance Supervisor for Don's Trucking in Chester, Virginia. He retired in 2017.
Monty loved to fish and owned a boat for most of his life. He enjoyed taking his family and friends out fishing and for boat rides. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and he was always known to lend a helping hand when he could to neighbors, friends, and family. He will be missed.
The family will receive friends at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the chapel of J.T Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 10 a.m., with interment following in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA.
