Mrs. Lois Mayfield Hawkins, 93, of the Petersburg Home for Ladies, 311 S. Jefferson St., Petersburg, widow of Alexander Vaughan Hawkins, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004. Mrs. Hawkins was a native of Greenville, SC and was the daughter of the late John Addison and Pauline Ashmore Mayfield. In childhood, she was a resident of the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Greenwood, SC. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Petersburg and former President of the Petersburg Federated Women’s Club and was the oldest member of Colonel John Banister Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by three daughters, Joan Hawkins Slater of Petersburg, Leta Hawkins Brunner and husband George of Findlay, Ohio and Alexa Hawkins Westfall and husband Joseph of Colonial Heights; four grandsons, John Parke Slater, Jr., of Henrico County, G. Stephen Brunner, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Glenn D. Brunner of Dublin, Ohio and Mark Alexander Brunner of Atlanta, GA, two granddaughters, Lind Slater Reiss and Leigh Slater Green both of Chesterfield; two step-grandsons, Joseph P. Westfall, III and J. Randy Westfall both of Colonial Heights and one step-granddaughter, June Westfall Kimbriel of Chesterfield; six great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Rand Forder, pastor of First Baptist Church and Dr. Isam Ballenger, officiating. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM tonight at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 235 W. Washington St., Petersburg.
