Lois Marie Merritt Davis

Lois Marie Merritt Davis, 82, of Hopewell, VA, died January 25th, 2021. Born and raised in Hopewell, Lois graduated in the top 10 of her Hopewell Highschool graduating class. She received her Associate’s Degree in Applied Science with a Minor in Office Systems Technology and Specialization in General Secretarial from John Tyler Community College. Lois was an Administrative Assistant at Stone Container Corporation for over 40 years. She was a member of the Professional Secretaries International, the Kraftsman Federal Credit Union Board, Red Hat Society, and Powers Memorial Baptist Church in Hopewell. Lois was an adventurer and thoroughly enjoyed travelling both domestically and abroad, with some of her most memorable trips being: Hawaii, Alaska, and several tours in Europe. She loved the ocean and spending time with family, as her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Lois relished in tasking herself, developing new skills, and conquering fresh challenges amidst an evolving society driven by technology. She was a devout mother who loved profoundly. Lois was the daughter of the late Louis Merritt and Hattie White Merritt, and the wife of the late Floyd Elliott Davis, whom she was married to for almost 60 years. She is survived by Wanda Davis Blevins, daughter, and her husband, Alan Blevins of Columbia, SC; grandson Jonathan Blevins, his wife, Mary and their son Dallas; granddaughter Lauren Henson, her husband, Mitchell and their four children Elliott, Ethan, Crew and Meredith; and granddaughter Kristen Blevins, and her fiancé, Logan Bailey. Lois is also survived by Gary Davis, son, and his wife, Elisabeth of Columbia, SC; granddaughter Melody Aylestock, her husband, Nathan and their children, Davis, Caedmon, and Phoebe; and grandson Stephen Davis. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday January 30th, 2021 at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leeza’s Care Connection, 201 St. Andrew’s Road, Columbia, SC 29010 (leezascareconnection.org). LCC is an organization designed to empower and support Caregivers when Alzheimer’s and other chronic illness present inimitable challenges, offering many free programs like support groups, educational workshops, and wellness activities.
