Lois Jennings Watkins, age 81 of Colonial Heights, passed away December 8, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Fitzhugh and Eunice Copeland Jennings, and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas R. Compton and second husband, E. Branch Watkins; 3 brothers, Robert L. Jennings, James E. Jennings and Fitzhugh L. Jennings; sister, Margaret Jennings Palmore; and dear friend, Walter B. Summers. Lois is survived by her son, Thomas R. Compton, Jr. and wife Chris; daughter, Janet C. Carter and husband, Tom; granddaughters, Alyssa R. Davis and husband Corey, and Andrea Coloff and husband Jon; grandson, Ewell T. Carter; great-granddaughter, Annabelle R. Davis; sister, Kathryn J. Varnell; sister-in-law, Hattie F. Jennings of Tampa, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lois graduated from Petersburg High School in 1949. She had a career with VDOT and retired after 16 years. Lois was also very active in both the Boy and Girl Scouts and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. The family will receive visitors Sunday, December 11th from 4 to 6 pm at the Chester chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with funeral services to follow on Monday, December 12th at 11:00 am.
