Loren L. ("Snooky") Parker, Jr.
Loren Leonidas Parker, Jr., 94, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville, GA.
He was the son of the late Loren Leonidas Parker, Sr., and Lillian Hedgpeth Parker, and was preceded in death by Helen McIlwaine Parker, his loving wife of 54 years, and a brother, Joseph Richard Parker.
An 87-year resident of Petersburg, Snooky attended Petersburg High School where he participated in several sports, then went on to Hampden-Sydney College. Prior to graduation, he was called into the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Captain and serving on the island of Saipan during World War II.
Snooky was in the insurance business for all of his professional life, serving the Hopewell area with his dad and brother at The Parker Agency, then as one of the first representatives for a then-little-known company from Columbus, GA known as American Family Life. Over the next thirty-plus years, he was instrumental in the Tri-Cities in making the Aflac duck one of the most recognizable icons in business today.
Snooky was an avid golfer and billiards player, and he was a member of numerous business and social organizations. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for nearly 60 years.
Snooky is survived by his son, Randy Parker, of Adairsville, GA, his grandson, Jay Parker of Atlanta, GA, and his granddaughter, Ali Parker, of Tuscaloosa, AL.
A graveside service to celebrate Snooky's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4th, at Blandford Cemetery with Dr. Dan Hale officiating. The Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Snooky. Condolences may be registered at
