Loretta Pearl McFadden passed away Monday Oct. 8, 2018 at age 65. She fought a hard battle with esophageal cancer. She remained very positive through all her treatments. She wanted to win the fight but her heart couldn’t take it. She was born in Montgomery, West Virginia before moving to Virginia. She never lost her country roots and never met a stranger. She loved being a Nana more than anything. Loretta is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Cavender; mother, Tennis Sturgill; sister, Bertha Haga; and brother, Gordon Cavender. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, William McFadden; son, Joe Thomas of Chester; daughter, Melissa Thomas-Swingley of South Boston; sisters, Kaye Proctor of DeWitt, Aggie Cavender and life partner, Mimma Leone, of Chester; brothers, Richard Cavender of Dixie, WV, and Jessie Cavender and wife, Marlene, of Crestview, FL; seven grandchildren, Leah, Seth, Gabby, Sydney, AJ, Cianna, and Anthony; and five great-grandchildren who she adored. She is also survived by her dear friend, Alice Anderson (Mama) and her family. She was with her every step of the way. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 11, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12 at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery on Centralia Rd.
