Louis Andrews, Jr.

October 7, 1942 — September 28, 2024

Louis Granger Andrews, Jr. "Buddy", 81, of Colonial Heights, VA, went to be with our Lord in Heaven, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, after an extended decline. He was born and raised in Petersburg, VA, and was the son of the late Louis G. and Ruby Andrews.

As a young teen, Buddy worked as a paper boy with The Progress Index, where he first met, and later married Ann Winfield Andrews. Together they raised three daughters.

Buddy proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961-1965, where he served honorably as a Navigator on the USS Longbeach. While serving as Navigator, he had the privilege of accompanying the USS Enterprise and the USS Bainbridge on an around the world exhibition cruise where he crossed the equator twice. These crossings, at the 180th Meridian, awarded him the title of Golden Shellback, a rare and coveted accolade of which he was very proud. He continued his military service for two more years in the Untied States Naval Reserve.

Buddy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed many family beach trips, stunt kite flying with his daughters and grandchildren, and cruising the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Northern Atlantic, and Alaska with his First Mate, of 59 1/2 years, Ann. Buddy and Ann were blessed with several very close, lifelong friends with whom they shared many memorable adventures, camping, vacations, weekend getaways, and family events. He was a long time member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where on two occasions he was blessed to participate in missions trips to Tanzania Africa. He loved the Lord and was passionate about spreading the Gospel to anyone who would hear.

Buddy was affectionately and lovingly referred to as Daddy by his three girls, Ann Granger Connors (Joe), of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Mary Elizabeth Pfleiger (Wayne), and Catherine Andrews Davis, both of Colonial Heights. He was dearly loved and called "Pop" by his eight grandchildren, Heather Hendrix (Chris), of Hampton, VA, Scott Heuser, of Norfolk, VA, Karli Baker (Caleb), of Prince George, VA, Landon Davis (Raychel), and Blake Davis (Taylor), of Chesterfield, VA, Granger and Hannah Pfleiger, of Colonial Heights, VA, and Rebecca Pfleiger McKay (Shawn), of Marlow, OK; and his nine dearly loved great-grandchildren.

He was the beloved brother of Linda Durfee (Dave Hoard), of Bradenton, FL,

and the uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Our family is also very grateful and blessed to have had the assistance of Dacia Jamison, who lovingly assisted Ann with his care for the last year.

Services will include interment at Blandford Cemetery, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00pm, followed by a celebration of life at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, at 2:00pm. Please join our family for visitation and light refreshments following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, tagged "Missions Fund."
