Louis George Phelps, 80, of McKenney, VA, a U.S. Air Force veteran, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Born in Lancaster, OH, he was the son of the late Guy Wilson and Mary Wolfrey Phelps. He was also preceded in death by a son, George Allen Phelps and a grandson, Jason Phelps. Mr. Phelps retired after many years as a truck driver, most recently driving for Walmart. He also enjoyed farming, and loved his cows and horses. He was a die-hard Washington Redskins and Ohio State fan, but more than anything, he loved his grandchildren very much. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Allen Phelps; daughter, Sandra Lynn Crowder; son, Guy Curtis Phelps and wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Heather Lynn Hall, Joshua Branden Sowers, Dustin Michael Phelps, Donovan Curtis Phelps, Ashley Elizabeth Phelps, Cameron Allen Phelps and Thomas Tyler Crowder; great-grandchildren, Brianna Lynn Sowers and Kane O’Neil Hawkins; great-great-grandchildren, Kyler Dale Bass, Fiore Lynn King, Eelan Victor Sowers, Ila Mae Sowers, Vada Louise Sowers, and Liam Tyler Crowder, several brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, and Friday, November 10 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Phelps Family Cemetery, 19736 Boydton Plank Road, McKenney, VA 23872.
