Louise King Marks

May 19, 1923 — November 18, 2016

Louise King Marks, 93, of Hopewell, VA passed away at her home Friday, November 18, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Bennie Marks; parents, Robert Alston and Nettie Wise King; brothers, Dewitt King, Paul King, Robert King, Clarence King and Arthur King; sisters, Clara Perkinson, Lucy Frazier, Ellen Umphlett and Ida Bobbitt. Louise graduated from Saint Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA, with a Register Nursing degree in 1945. She married Bennie Marks on October 13, 1946. She spent her life caring for others, both in and out of the hospital. She was the “go to person” when family and friends were ill. She retired from John Randolph Hospital as the Assistant Director of the operating room. She was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She and her husband hosted large family and friend gatherings with ease. Even though her health was declining, she was still concerned about her family and friends. She would always ask, “Are you Okay”. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marks Bohlander and her husband, Fred; son, Ben Marks and his wife, Melanie; grandson, Fred Bohlander, III and his wife, Amy; granddaughter, Lauren Murphy; brother, Stanley King and his wife, Mary; sisters, Martha Jones, Jean Harris; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, November 21st at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11am on Tuesday, November 22nd at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jacob Sahms and Rev. Delmer Chandler officiating. Interment will be private. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Delmer Chandler, Sue Yarbrough, Hilda Dias, Cindy Andrews, Helen Powell, Gloria Walker and Valerie Beasley for their kind, caring, and compassionate care as their mother traveled down the long road of lewy body dementia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 2901 Norfolk Street, Hopewell, VA 23860. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
